According to the 2012 United States Census Bureau Houghton County had a population of 36,520. The median income for a household in Houghton County was $34,625, and the median income for a family was $48,506.
The Houghton County Health Statics table reports that in 2011 the average days of care for a patient was 15,006 days. Don’t Do It Yourself (DDIY) serves as an emergency funding source for the people of Houghton and Keweenaw counties that are facing a financial hardship due to a medical crisis.
DDIY helps offset travel expenses for people that do not have travel reimbursement opportunities, helps where the greatest need might be for individuals that do not qualify for low income assistance, and networks and collaborates with other organizations.
